Golden Globes 2014- Lusting over Lupita

Two words: Lupita Nyong'o. Lupita, you have stolen my fashion heart.

The 12 years of Slave actress is new to the red carpet but walked it better then some of the Golden Globes vets. Draped in a GORGEOUS orange Ralph Lauren cape dress, the actress glowed. The dress fit her perfectly. That color...on her skin.... to die for. And the high fashion of that dress...... #dying

Golden Globes- The WTF's?

So the Golden Globes were this past weekend. You know what that mean- FASHION, FASHION, FASHION. Well, at least you would think so. But this past red carpet just made me think that all these girls need to hire new stylists, and these designers may need to go back to design school. There were many flops of the nights but these are the worst of the worst. These are my Golden Globes WTF's?

Hayden Penettiere in Tom Ford. Yes, Tom Ford. Never in my life did I think it was possible to make Tom Ford look cheap but congrats Hayden, you did it! The dress is trampy. The hair is.... ugh. Hayden, you are young, dress like it!

Paula Patton .... what is that on your shoulder?

I love this girl TO DEATH. But come on. JLaw. You have a contract with Dior and THIS is what you wear? Ariel called and she wants her dress back....

A mantra a day keeps the crazy away

Over the summer I started reading positivity books. You know, books on positive thinking. Mantras, hopeful stuff, a la Eat, Pray, Love. One of the ones I stumbled upon was Miranda Kerr's Treasure yourself. Now, I love Miranda; she's one of my favorite VS supermodels (or at least she was, since she doesn't work with them anymore.) But I'm not gonna lie, her parts were a little.... boring. (Sorry Miranda.)

However, the mantras Kerr included in the back where what really changed me. So many times we are so busy with our lives to remember the simplest of things until they hit us right across the face. Some of the mantras were like that. They filled you with a positive attitude and wisdom that you tend to forget. One of my favorite lines was "I refuse to eat emotional poision." It's such a simple line but it makes you think. You don't have to "eat' emotional poision. You have the right not to. We tend to forget that right a lot however. By just repeating that mantra your outlook has changed. That's the beauty of positive thinking. :)

I'm thinking of doing a bit of re-reading. At least until I can figure out how to get my hands on her next sequel.

The start of something new

The start of the new year always means the start of something new. It means pushing yourself to do things you were afraid to do. Taking new chances and setting new goals for yourself. I suppose that is what I am doing by starting this blog. Trying to venture out into the world.

2014 is a pivotal year in my life. It's the year I graduate, move out and get a job. The scary thing is that I like so many of my peers have no idea where this road will take me. My path is unclear with no directions or signals in sight. I have no idea how a girl who spends so much time dreaming of clothes and travel can settle down and go out into the real world and be (do I dare to say it?) an adult.

So here's to trying to figure it all out, to my future and to any excuse for me to take a swing of my alcohol. It's a good thing I'm 21 cause something tells me I'm going to need quite a few drinks these next few months...
